BACK IN BLOOM
The bright outlook of the summer festival season dimmed considerably last year when, due to budget issues, Echo Park's Lotus Festival was abruptly canceled. Well, times may still be tight, but the event -- celebrating Asian culture and timed to coincide with the annual blooming of the lotus flowers on Echo Park Lake -- is back on this year. Representatives from across the gamut of Asian and Pacific Islander culture will be on hand, with a particular highlight this year on the people of China; artisans and boutiques will sell their wares in the Flower Pavilion, accompanied by music and dance presentations, a health fair, community outreach area and food and beverages from local Asian eateries.
