An interdisciplinary bazaar that pays tribute to our city's most colorful characters, L.A. Weekly's Artopia celebrates our annual People issue (on the streets next week, folks), with live art-making from female street artist Hueman, an edgy fashion show by the progressive and provocative Bohemian Society, music from L.A.'s own mind-blowing DJ consortium dublab and sculptural installations by Ramiro Gomez. This year, the annual affair takes place inside downtown's historic Grand Central Market, and it includes wine and beer. Operating continuously for nearly a century, the venue itself is a local landmark, as well as a testament to L.A.'s cultural heritage, reflecting the city's enduring capacity for creativity. Striking a balance between approachability and the avant garde, Artopia is curated by art critic and L.A. Weekly contributor Shana Nys Dambrot, whose enduring support of local artists has propelled countless careers. With an exciting lineup of expert artists, designers and music mavens taking over Los Angeles' world-renowned culinary marketplace, Artopia promises to be a multimedia blowout for the senses.
