Anime Expo

Anime Expo

Beginning July 3, tens of thousands of anime fans will fill up Los Angeles Convention Center for Anime Expo. It's the second longest-running anime convention in the United States, for good reason: Organizers bring in some of the highest-profile guests in the world of anime, manga and Japanese pop and rock music. This year's convention is packed with events for anime die-hards. Screenings include the world premiere of anime movie K: Missing Kings, plus the U.S. premiere of the series Sword Art Online II and a showing of the English dub of the hit Kill la Kill. If none of these titles sounds familiar to you, that's OK: There's also an oldie ready to make a big comeback — Get ready for the return of Sailor Moon. July 5 is the con's official Sailor Moon Day, featuring panels, autograph sessions, a screening of new series Sailor Moon Crystal and a massive cosplay gathering. Given that Sailor Moon introduced a lot of people to anime, you can expect to see the Sailor Scouts, and even some obscure characters, hanging around the convention center all weekend. Costumes optional. Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa St., dwntwn.; Thu., July 3-Sun., July 5; $35-$70. anime-expo.org.
