$40 TO A BETTER YOU!

Actor Jeffrey Tambor is known for such brilliantly deadpan roles as George Bluth Sr. on Arrested Development, Hank Kingsley on The Larry Sanders Show, plus countless others from TV, screen and stage. He’s also something of a self-improvement genius, having developed a show that teaches people how to be all they can be, called Performing Your Life. The show started as a teaching exercise with actors, writers and directors at the South by Southwest Film Festival and has had success at Dreamworks and AFI. Actress Jill Clayburgh has been quoted as saying he has an amazing “truth detector.” “I think she’s lying,” responds Tambor, who attributes his upbringing in a third-generation Russian/Hungarian household for his highly developed interpersonal skills: “Lovely, lovely but a fast crowd, verbally and emotionally. You had to be quick on your feet and be able to read faces and intonations, fast, or else. I guess that ability has carried over.” What’s in it for him? He e-tells us, “I have seen actors over the years — actors of enormous talent — not hit the mark they could, or even worse, give up. We laugh a lot on these shows. This is not some serious session around a Russian samovar.”
