If you're an old-time film fan and all you want to do is sit on your couch and bliss out, then you have Turner Classic Movies every night and plenty of vintage DVDs from your local library. But for true cineastes, there's nothing as authentic as seeing old films — particularly silent films — in a setting specifically designed for them. Old Town Music Hall, built in 1921 and restored in 1968, is a treasured cultural landmark in El Segundo. It has been showing vintage silent and sound films, and presenting live concerts by some of the world's finest performers of jazz, ragtime and popular music from the past, for the last 45 years. But what really makes it special is the Mighty Wurlitzer, a massive 1925 wind-powered pipe organ, which has been meticulously preserved so that silent classics can be experienced with live musical accompaniment, just as they were when they were first shown. Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton — they've all made appearances this year, along with more modern classics like Casablanca and Sunset Boulevard. 140 Richmond St., El Segundo, 90245.
