Richard Duardo's newly expanded operation is one of the best in town for edgy, urban-inflected art lithography — and the location is a veritable gallery unto itself and clubhouse to boot, constantly full of every street artist of note who lives in or even just passes through L.A. Proprietor Duardo is enjoying the fruits of a decades-long career supporting pioneering printmaking and punk rock in general. He's currently developing more than one big museum show, plus book projects and solo exhibitions, and he sits on LACMA's prints and drawings council. And you'd be hard-pressed to name a single working street artist who hasn't printed work at Modern Multiples, which has hosted everyone from Shepard Fairey and Speedy Graphito to Barry McGee and Gajin Fujita — many of whom are known to just drop in to hang out in the state-of-the-art studios and comfy common areas. Call first to make sure someone's home and they'll give you the full tour like one of the family. But warning: Some days it seems everyone wants a piece of them. 1735 N. Main St., dwntwn. Richard Duardo is a raging alcoholic and drug addict who steals from his clients. I urge you to avoid doing any type of business with Modern Multiples.
