One of L.A.'s leading tell-all storytelling shows, Don't Tell My Mother is packed with wall-to-wall stories of a consistently high quality. The performances usually are great, too. Not surprisingly, mothers themselves make frequent, usually unapologetic appearances in tales involving sex, sperm, prison, drugs, pregnancy and cheese (though usually not all in the same story), and the stories almost always live up to the title of the show. Producers Nikki Levy (a producer at Fox who's a regular performer in the show) and Lizzie Czerner book an eclectic lineup drawn from stand-ups like Jen Kober, writers like Justin Halpern (Shit My Dad Says), actors like Mary Birdsong (Reno 911) and Tracee Ellis Ross (Girlfriends) and the occasional drag queen. Their well-wrought and well-told tales embarrass the tellers, their mothers and sometimes even the SRO crowd that packs Cafe Club Fais Do-Do. Where better to air your dirty laundry? 5253 W. Adams Blvd., West Adams. (310) 780-6368, donttellmymother.com.
