Best Martini Los Angeles 2012

Musso & Frank Grill

Like silent films, old-school in the martini realm does not mean boring. Nor is there much to be said of the dry martini at Musso & Frank Grill that hasn't been said already. Yes, they know how to make a classic Old Hollywood sipper — even after longtime barman Manny Felix retired after 40 years of infamous red-jacket stirring. And a martini here is best when "taken" as part of the entire steak-and–jellied consommé experience. Because with a drink as (one can hope) simple as a martini, you want — need — to taste the cocktail as it was originally sipped in the heyday of old Hollywood. 6667 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd. • Partying at Comic-Con 2014
Whoever said nerds can't party has obviously never experienced Comic-Con after dark. The industry parties might have free booze, but most of those execs are back in bed by 10 p.m. If you ask the fans they'll tell you that sometimes the best party is the one happening in the hotel lobby with their friends. We set out to get our geeky grove on and capture all the action in the Gaslamp Quarter. All photos by Shannon Cottrell.
