Kohuhu, grevillea, bougainvillea — oh my! Marina del Rey Garden Center has numerous varieties of those colorful, drought-tolerant plants and so much more. This is the sort of garden center one usually finds occupying vast tracts far inland, where land is cheap, not on more than 2 acres just off the 90 freeway in Marina del Rey. Wander the grounds, inhale the flowery scents and salty sea air, and envision your dream garden. The staff can explain how to grow roses and vegetables in pots, how to cover an eyesore with vines or how to create a stunning succulent display (of which they have plenty). An excellent selection of Vietnamese and Mexican Talavera ceramic pots, plus faux-terracotta (much lighter) containers ranging from tiny to big-enough-to-bathe-in, will provide homes for your purchases. They also have numerous fountains and garden ornaments. 13198 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey. (310) 823-5956, marinagardencenter.com.

Do not even think about going there!

Reasons:

1- Great pre-sales customer service, however once you are passed to make the payment you will not longer be an appreciated customer. They will not look after you.

2- Prices, are way above the standard

3- When things go wrong they will forget their promises and even blame you. Did I mention you are no longer an appreciated customer once you've piad?

I wanted to have my first plant and looked for help. I was very specific: I don't know a thing about plants so I want something I only have to water every now and then. I liked the iceberg roses, I was told they were very resilient and watering them once a week will be enough and so I was sold 3 of them.

I went to pick them up a while later and continued shopping. I was excited and thought I could do with more plants, I asked for help and Roger was at hand with tips and ideas. He was great, but when I arrived at the register Katerina, the sales manager, was abrupt and only interested in taking my money. I was not sure of the things I had picked but as I felt the pressure (Katernia said that I had to pay for them or they will give them to somebody else) I purchased a few things from Roger's designs. I went back the next day and decided not to get the things and I only took the roses home. That day I wanted three pots for my new roses but they only had 2, Roger recommended I ordered the three pots together so that they look alike, he said sometimes the ones coming in are very different to the ones they have in stock so obviously I ordered three. Apparently once you order something it is yours and they will not give you money back. Even if they can resell it.

I looked after the roses as per Laurie's instructions (once a week is enough). The roses died and so I decided I did not need the pots. I went back to the garden center and tried to explain what happened and the reason why I didn't want the pots. I was told there was nothing they will do, I paid for them and I had to take them. The owner told me it was my fault, he even said I misheard what Laurie said and they will not give me my money back. They state it on their receipt and it was final! Just one last thing, at the bottom of the receipt there is a space for your signature were you accepts the T&Ts my receipt does not have my signature... Is this legal?

Avoid trouble, do not go there!
