Best Wizard at Tailoring - 2011
Eddie's Tailor Shop
First of all, there's an actual Eddie at Eddie's Tailor Shop. It's not just a cutesy-gruff, old-timey name devised by business suits to fool the public into thinking the place is a mom-and-pop shop. Not only does Eddie own and run the place with a kooky fastidiousness — nay, obsession — regarding the traditional art of tailoring and the concept of couture (custom-fitted clothing), but his store is actually a mom-and-son shop. Eddie's mother works there and helps with orders. His shop has been in Downtown L.A. for more than 20 years; he particularly emphasizes multidimensional shirt tailoring, resulting in a tapered look; careful hemming of detail-rich designer jeans; and comprehensive treatment of pants, which can include tapering/narrowing, waist adjustments, zipper replacements and lowered or shortened rise — all at affordable prices. Basically, Eddie wants you kids to get it together and look good. If not for him, then do it for Mom. 115 E. Eighth St., dwntwn.; (213) 614-1144, eddiestailorshop.com.
