Nothing says "Fuck you, New York" like a crepuscular pupusa in December. Un Solo Sol, a Pan-American restaurant on the Boyle Heights bluff across the street from the Mariachi Plaza Gold Line Station, serves up succulent, vegetarian-friendly dishes from Central and South America, including the genial owner's native El Salvador. Wash them down with any of the delicious aguas frescas, especially cantaloupe or watermelon. Keep an eye on its Facebook page for terrific events, including flamenco nights and $5 community dinners. But really, forget all that — they could serve surly haggis with a side of gruel, and we'd still keep coming back for the sight of the downtown skyline, Dodger Stadium twinkling awake to the north, and all of it backlit by a perfect Panavision sunset. 1818 E. 1st St., Boyle Heights.
