At the Peninsula Beverly Hills, once you breeze past the (rumored-to-be) high-end hookers lounging in their sultry unaffordables at the imposing Club Bar on the hotel's ground floor, your goal is to snag a fine, cushiony perch at a poolside seat in the Roof Garden's bar several floors above. From the elevator, a passageway leading to the pool, restaurant and small bar is filled with the scent of camphor wafting from a world-class luxury massage room. Once you step onto the roof, you experience a Mary Poppins–and-Bert moment in reverse: The views look out not over filthy chimneys but over the chimneys of the filthy rich. If it's a warm evening, the sights are spectacular — after all, a hot Euro guy might lazily stretch out on a chaise longue.
