Finding an old-school place to knock down several drinks and a few pins ain't as easy as you'd think in the city that, thanks to The Big Lebowski, is famed for dive-bar bowling. Many of the great haunts have suffered major upgrades and remodels. But not Shatto 39 Lanes, a colossal beige building on the corner of West 4th Street and Vermont in Koreatown. Shatto is testament to old-fashioned gaming fun, where 1978 meets 1998. Walk up a flight of red metal stairs and enter a world filled with the sounds of pins crashing, arcade games blaring, music pumping and people having a good time. Offering a staggering 40 bowling lanes, a billiards parlor, foosball tables and two video game rooms, there's something for all. That includes the bar, a low-lit canteen offering upscale specials on shots of Grey Goose where you can also still get a Bud for $3.25. 3255 W. 4th St., Koreatown. (213) 385-9475, shatto39lanes.com.
