One of the two largest markets on the Kosher Corridor — the swath of Pico Boulevard that stretches from Beverly Drive to La Cienega — Glatt Mart may be a couple cents more expensive than nearby Elat Market, but it's cleaner, newer and doesn't require shoppers to wear steel-toed boots and elbow pads just to push their carts down the aisles. You do need to be choosy about the produce, but for those accustomed to shopping in regular supermarkets, even Trader Joe's, the low prices on fruit and veg will come as a pleasant shock. (Prepare to be wowed by the petite Persian cucumbers.) When the season is right, look for gooseberries, currants and a good selection of figs. Year-round, there are refrigerators filled with kosher meat, hummus, kefir and labneh, as well as a deli counter that offers house-made zucchini pancakes and freshly rolled kosher sushi. The aisles are stocked with spices and dried goods, including popular Israeli brands. There's even a decent alcohol selection. The biggest downside is Glatt's parking lot, a perpetual snarl of such idiotic and hazardous driving, it makes the Whole Foods lot at Third and Fairfax look like kindergarten. 8708 W. Pico Blvd., W.L.A. (310) 289-6888, glattmart.net.
