Everyone goes on about the beloved Julienne San Marino bistro (and complains about the fact that it isn't open on Sundays), but the attached petite marché gourmet deserves its own 15 minutes. Long and narrow, this hybrid bakery, gourmet market and store is stuffed to the brim with delectable wares and foodstuffs. In every corner, multiple fridges offer all sorts of treats — often frozen for later — such as soups and casseroles so you can be prepared for any dinner emergency. Julienne's stocks lots of imported goods, like quince paste, which it promises is best with manchego and sheep's cheese, or matiz piquillo peppers (great on salads and with cheese plates). And among the many jams, it sells the famous raspberry jam also served with the restaurant's currant and thyme bread. Many of the edible items are made in-house, while a lot of the dry goods are imported. Julienne's market even has its own cookbook stocked among the other coffee-table books. So even if you don't buy out the place, you can take home some of the restaurant's secrets. 2651 Mission St., San Marino; (626) 441-2499, juliennetogo.com.
