For over a decade, the tiny club space on Fairfax that housed Largo regularly packed in audiences for some of the greatest music and comedy shows in town. Owner Mark Flanagan remodeled the venue in 1996 and programmed a constant slate of terrific musicians — most notably singer-songwriters including Aimee Mann, the late Elliott Smith and Friday-night house maestro Jon Brion — as well as marquee comics like Sarah Silverman and Patton Oswalt. As Largo’s deservedly great reputation grew, eventually the demand outstripped the house’s capacity, so it was major news when Flanagan decided to close the original location and set up shop across town on La Cienega, at the former Coronet Theater, a multistage complex with a 280-seat theater and a smaller venue on the other side of the courtyard. (Known as the Little Room, the latter space was the original location of Doug Weston’s Troubadour.) With more seats to fill, Largo continues to pack ’em in with its staple performers plus great touring acts and new repertory favorites, including the terrific mock-radio serial show The Thrilling Adventure Hour. As vital a venue as they come. 366 N. La Cienega Blvd., W. Hlywd. (310) 855-0350, largo-la.com. —Nicole Campos
