Ovarian Psychos

The Eastside-based cycling crew rides under the sobriquet Ovarian Psychos and hosts bimonthly rides dubbed Ovarian Cycles. Their “solidarity ride with our brothers” was originally titled Testosterone Tuesdays before a child-care conflict forced the change to Huevo Wednesdays. But ask Xela de la X, who organizes the ride-outs, to take credit for the most outrageously named bicycle crew in L.A. and she’ll refuse. “Even though I started organizing it, I feel like all women” have felt “there’s that sentiment, so we might as well own the name,” she says. De la X’s respect for community is integrated in the rides, which begin at a community center or gathering spot with a brief but thoughtful discussion between agency representatives or community activists and the riders. While some men took offense to the female-only group, men can participate by offering bottled water along the route or handling child-care. facebook.com/ovarian.psycos or ovarian.psychos@gmail.com. —Tibby Rothman
