The ’70s fad of restaurants and cocktail lounges that rotate to display 360-degree views was mercifully short-lived. It’s undeniably awesome, however, that a relic from that age remains in downtown L.A., in the form of the BonaVista Lounge. Perched on the 34th floor of the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, the BonaVista is a bizarre and delightful throwback. With its low lighting and burgundy-and-brass color palette, it feels like you’ve walked into a primetime soap from the Jimmy Carter era. The food’s nothing special, so eat elsewhere before you come, but the cocktails are just fine, and the views, especially at sunset on a clear day, are genuinely striking. Unlike the Standard, the BonaVista is never overrun by law-firm bros guzzling Heinekens after work, making it the quieter, cooler, more grown-up option in high-altitude nightlife. And did we mention the place rotates? Let’s see the Standard pull that off. 404 S. Figueroa St., 34th floor, dwntwn. (213) 624-1000. —Dexter Fishmore
