Francisco George

Vintage retailer Francisco George lives for fashion. The owner of a highly successful Laguna Beach boutique in the ’90s, he became addicted to speed, went broke and spent a year living on the streets. Now he devours the pages of Vogue and Elle — he subscribes to both — with passion, while also combing markets and estate sales for vintage treasures. Remark about how the impeccable brocade coats he stocks are currently the rage and he can list the labels riding the Mad Men wave better than any Project Runway contestant. Ask why he caters only to women and he’ll go off on men’s attitudes toward vintage. His wares certainly bear the mark of a fashion authority: luscious 1930s beaded evening gowns, ’50s cocktail dresses and even early Escada and Kenzo, all at prices a fashion greenhorn can afford. Melrose Trading Post every first and fourth Sunday; Pasadena Rose Bowl every second Sunday. —Noelle Loh
