It's been years since the city's initial food-truck boom, so what does it take to cut through all the reverberating noise and make it as a new truck in 2013? A return to fresh, straightforward food, mostly. And a warm smile never hurts. On-board the classically painted Deano's Deli truck, there are plenty of both, thanks to young owner Erin Crist and her very specific sandwich vision. Crist's East Coast–inspired deli truck ships in Thumann's meats and Amoroso rolls from Philadelphia, then sources local produce to finish off the traditional hoagies. Think prosciutto, cappicola, roast beef, pastrami, meatballs and even roasted pork, on an airy, slightly crunchy sub roll that's airlifted in from Philly. Don't worry, Angelenos, they stock Handsome Coffee, too. —Farley Elliott
