Leo Fender released the first mass-produced electric guitar back in 1950, in Fullerton. Today, at the Fender Factory Tour, learn how these guitars make the journey from simple blocks of wood to instruments that can stir the human soul. Located in Corona since 1998, this manufacturing facility is responsible for turning out about 400 guitars a day. The hourlong tour starts in the visitor center, a mini-museum celebrating well-known musicians who have used a Fender. It then enters the factory, where you see each department, from pickup fabrication to the woodmill (where the distinctive bodies are carved) to sanding, polishing and final assembly. It's a necessary experience for any rock-music lover. 301 Cessna Circle, Corona, 92880. (951) 898-4040, fender.com/visitor-center. —Nikki Kreuzer
