The walls in the downstairs exhibition space at Blum & Poe keep changing. A whole room will disappear, or a new room will pop up inside another. Sometimes the space features the blatantly spectacular, as in its show of Japanese super-artist Takeshi Murakami, and sometimes it's far more humble, like when Victor Mann's small, dark paintings took over. The roster includes very local, very contemporary artists — Friedrich Kunath, for example — and some from far away — such as the late Japanese artist Koji Enokura. But it's the ambition of its programming, including great thematic group shows like last year's crime-themed "No Person May Carry a Fish Into a Bar" (which thankfully included more women than past shows have) that makes Blum & Poe the most impressive gallery in the city at the moment. 2727 S.
