You're out with your friends and you're tired of Hollywood drink prices, standing-room-only clubs and pushy meatheads. You wonder aloud if there's a cozy place where you can imbibe and enjoy music with all the comforts of your couch. In fact, there are many such spots in Koreatown, where karaoke rooms are known as norebang. Some have after-hours alcohol and assorted sketchiness. Palm Tree L.A., the grande dame of local norebang, however, does not. What it does have is the most welcoming vibe in a community that doesn't always roll out the red carpet for outsiders. And it has luxe, recording studio–quality rooms for parties from five people ($20 an hour) to 30 ($60 an hour). There are also deals that include bottle service and snacks. Songs are available in English, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, Indonesian and more. The place does stay open after hours on weekend nights, with the booze turned off before 2 a.m. The quality of the music? That's up to you. 3240 Wilshire Blvd., No. 401, Koreatown. 213-381-3388, palmtree-la.com.
