The 18-hole, pitch-and-putt Armand Hammer Golf Course sits among rose bushes and plants from around the world, shaded by tall trees. The lovely course is guarded by massive mansions and sits adjacent to the Holmby Park Bowling Club (established 1927). A walking path circles the par-3 course (lots of joggers and dog walking). Folks can use the picnic tables to munch on Hammerdogs from the snack shop. Or bring your own and barbecue on grills set throughout the park/course. A waterfall trickles into a stream that cuts through the course. Don't let this shorty (at 832 yards, with its longest hole 78 yards and its shortest 29) lull you into thinking you'll master the track. It's tough, with almost every green rounded like a turtle back, each one little bigger than a dining table. Shots roll off if there's too much juice on the ball. And here's perhaps the best part: Greens fees are $3 Monday-Thursday, $3.50 on Friday and $4 on weekends. 601 Club View Drive, W.L.A. (310) 276-1604, ci.la.ca.us/rap/golf/cdp_holmby.htm.
