There’s a reason Marsellus Wallace, the fierce mob kingpin from Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, had a man thrown off a fourth-story balcony for giving his wife a foot massage: They feel damn good. If only Mia Wallace had access to the San Gabriel Valley foot massage kingdom back in 1994, she could have saved everyone a lot of pain and misery by visiting these professionals. Along Valley Boulevard, between New Avenue and San Gabriel Boulevard, there operates the largest concentration of Chinese foot massage parlors in the United States. And you don’t have to be a mobster’s wife to afford one. Fierce competition over the last six years has seen prices drop and hold steady at around $15 for an hourlong massage (not including tip). Every walk of life staggers in to have their reflexology points kneaded: nurses, lawyers, waiters, teachers. It is a proletariat approach to Chinese podiatry. For the classic tried-and-trues, go to Tibetan Herbal Feet Soak (the original) or Oriental Natural Treatment Center. Other favorites include Foot Spa and Fu Sheng Foot Soak. Tibetan Herbal Feet Soak, 227 W. Valley Blvd., #218A, (626) 588-2666; Oriental Natural Treatment Center, 502-512 E. Valley Blvd., (626) 280-0669; Foot Spa, 250 W. Valley Blvd., Suite B, (626) 282-2801; Fu Sheng Foot Soak, 301 W. Valley Blvd., #201, (626) 300-9188; all in San Gabriel. —Rena Kosnett
