Tiki Ti

Tiki Ti may be diminutive, but the drinks and atmosphere are anything but. With its 90 different concoctions to choose from and décor brimming with tropical tchotchkes, entering this little shack can be overwhelming, to say the least. Add to that the bounteous boozy body bunches and giddy smokers (a loophole in the law regarding owner-operated-and-staffed establishments allows them to ignore the cigarette ban) and this Silver Lake bar is big in every way but size, recalling another place and time — especially once its famous umbrella'd sweet poisons kick in. Owner Mike Buhen took over the biz from his dad, Ray (a mixologist from famed restaurant Don the Beachcomber, who opened the Hawaiian-themed hut back in 1961), and has maintained his pop's liquored legacy ever since with killer concoctions like Cobra's Fang, Skull and Bones, Uga Booga (its name is chanted as it's being made!), Bonnie and Clyde, Pain Killer and Ray's Mistake. In addition to the namesake drink, Mike pays tribute to Ray every Wednesday, ringing a bell five times and having everyone in the bar stop what they're doing to toast his father. Of course, at the Ti he's not the only one getting toasted. 4427 Sunset Blvd., Silver Lake. (323) 669-9381. —Lina Lecaro
