The Dude Abides: Lebowski Fest Bowls Over Los Angeles May 7 and 8
Last November at the VH1 Classic Rock Autism Celeb Bowl-Off at Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood, I had only one question for the rockers and celebs I snagged time with on the red carpet: When it comes to bowling movies, which is better and why: The Big Lebowski or Kingpin?
Kingpin won (to my surprise) but I wouldn't mention that to the hordes of fans who plan on swarming the Wiltern Theater (May 7 for the movie party) and Cal Bowl (May 8 for the bowling party) for the kick off of 2009's Lebowski Fest. Seriously, what's better than two days of wannabe Dudes and Nihilists facing off to party, bowl and watch the movie of all movies together? Nothing, that's what. Well, maybe riding unicorns but that's a story for another time. According to the Lebowski Fest press release:
"Due to a scheduling conflict, Jeff Bridges will not be able to attend, but he was gracious enough to film a video greeting for the Fest and our beloved 'Achievers' that will premiere at the Movie Party at The Wiltern. Confirmed attendees thus far include Jeff Dowd (the man who inspired Jeff Bridges' character, The Dude), as well as actors from the movie, including the two thugs who soiled the Dude's rug: Philip Moon ("Woo, Treehorn Thug") and Mark Pellegrino ("Blonde Treehorn Thug"). Also slated to appear are Jon Polito ("Da Fino"), James Hoosier ("Liam O'Brien," Jesus' bowling partner), Robin Jones ("Ralph's checkout girl"), and Lu Elrod ("Coffee Shop Waitress"). Also performing will be Yuto, the 8-yr-old guitar prodigy, at the Movie Party on the 7th."
