Takin' It From the Streets: Bulletproof Deli
Before launching his own creative efforts, D. Sabela Grimes earned his dance cred as a contributing member of Rennie Harris Puremovement, the preeminent force in bringing hip-hop and street dance to the stage. Now ensconced in UCLA’s postgrad World Arts & Culture program, the multifaceted artist unveils his latest blending of theater, street dance and cutting-edge hip-hop in Bulletproof Deli. The title refers to that hybrid all-night takeout joint/convenience store, a beacon in the wee hours of darkness that denizens of the night gather to like moths to a flame, in search of all types of nourishment. Highways Performance Space, 1651 18th St., Santa Monica; Fri., April 4, 8:30 p.m.; $20; $15 students & seniors. www.highwaysperformance.org.
