Friday, May 9

Celebrating Batman's 75th anniversary, the Egyptian Theatre will screen four films over two nights, starting with Batman (1966) and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993) at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The former, which coincided with the hit, live-action TV series that ran from 1966 to 1968, finds Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) taking on the likes of the Penguin, the Riddler, the Joker and Catwoman. In the latter, a spinoff of the animated series that ran from 1992 to 1998, Batman must prove his innocence after being framed by the assassin Phantasm. On Saturday, a double bill of Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns, starring Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight, starts at 7:30 p.m..
Saturday, May 10

Over at Pan Pacific Park, Street Food Cinemas launches its summer series of outdoor screenings with the 30th-anniversary celebration of Revenge of the Nerds and Bachelor Party. Food and music begin at 5:30 p.m., with the movies starting at 8 p.m. Revenge of the Nerds'"Booger" (Curtis Armstrong) will be in attendance. This kickoff eventis free. NewFilmmakers Los Angeles' monthly event brings two shorts programs and the feature Aldo on Saturday, starting at 5:45 p.m. at the AT&T Center. Each block is preceded by a reception and followed by a Q&A and an afterparty with a full bar. Aldo is about a hairstylist who gets in trouble with a loan shark after losing a bet on a basketball playoff series.

Sunday, May 11

Celebrate Mother's Day with the American Cinematheque. Travel the Yellow Brick Road with The Wizard of Oz in 3-D at the Aero at 4 p.m., or revisit the von Trapp family in The Sound of Music at the Egyptian at 5 p.m. Whichever classic musical you choose, we're sure you and Mom will have a nostalgic walk down memory lane.

Monday, May 12

The Sundance Sunset Cinemas kicks off its new Queer/Art/Film series,which originated in New York at the IFC Center in 2009. This month will feature multimedia artist A.L. Steiner, whose work includes a queer porn film that's currently at MoMA. At 7:15 p.m., she will present Slava Tsukerman's Liquid Sky, about "invisible aliens in hot pursuit of heroin." Before watching the new Godzilla , which comes out on May 16, revisit the original in the 60th-anniversary restoration of Godzilla: The Japanese Original , playing at all ArcLight locations through May 14.
