Makeup for Pussy Cats: Hello Kitty & MAC

Makeup for Pussy Cats: Hello Kitty & MAC

Last year they did Dame Edna, now they're doing a Hello Kitty line of cosmetics.

"Somewhere between a coy girl and sexy siren, M·A·C Hello Kitty represents the desire in all of us to be both innocent and mischievous," says their PR. She is coy girl, sexy siren, and all cat.

The color palette is black, grey, white and pink and is what MAC believes Hello Kitty would wear if she were a fashionista. There will be lipsticks called "Fashion Mews" (sheer pale lavender), and "Strayin'" (frosty midtone pink). I'm looking forward to the "Fast Friends" lipglass (sheer bright intense purple with pearl) and "Yogurt" eyeshadow (soft pale pink). And also the "On the Prowl" nail lacquer (light creamy grey). All makeup should be named after cat themes.

They also asked some designers (Catherine Malandrino, Elie Saab, Charlotte Ronson, Opening Ceremony, Tadashi Shoji, Zac Posen, and more) to create stuff inspired by Kitty. You know, stuff that girls who wish they were cats would normally wear: avant garde cocktail frocks, couture swimwear. These designs will be auctioned off starting today on Ebay. Click

The images stirred up a bit of controversy with animal ethics people, who asked "WHY paint cats indeed?" The calendar and accompanying book were spoofs, and detailed an allegedly ancient Eastern practice of using cats as canvas. People were worried that having their fur painted  "humiliates" the cats. But the photos were Photoshopped. No actual cats were painted. This MAC makeup line, on the other hand, is the real deal. Just try not to use it on your cats.
