Fiesta Argentina 2006 de Tango a Malambo
Travel without leaving L.A. this summer, using as your passport a ticket to the Ford Amphitheater, where performers from around the world arrive with the regularity of planes landing at LAX. This week marks the return of last summers sold-out celebration of Argentine culture. The music of urban Buenos Aires bordellos will be represented, of course, but this is more than just a tango show; the malambo associated with the rural cowboy culture of the gauchos also takes a turn in the spotlight. Other features include tango singer Esther Segovia, and Emmy winner Jose Luis Pepe Motta directing the assembled musicians, most from Argentina. Preshow activities starting at 6 p.m. include free tango lessons, plus vendors selling tango garb, traditional arts, crafts and an array of Argentine food, beer and wine. John Anson Ford Amphitheater, 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. East, Hlywd.; Sat., Aug. 12, 8 p.m.; $32 & $40, $12 students & children. (323) 461-3673 or www.fordamphitheatre.org.
