“Locale” at Margo Leavin Gallery: Go see this group show and don’t miss the 25-minute video by Harry Dodge and Stanya Kahn, Can’t Swallow It, Can’t Spit It Out, which stars Kahn as a modern-day Valkyrie who reveals both comic and tragic personal stories while desperately trying to help the camera find some action around our city. “Bring the War Home” at QED Gallery. Here, finally, is a group show about an idea that is relevant and participates in and ignites discourse between artists, critics and curators about the art market and the current political climate. Titled after the Weather Underground’s slogan, the exhibition features work by many artists, including Walead Beshty, Wade Guyton and Kelley Walker, Matthew Brannon and Mai-thu Perret. “this talk we have, this talk we have had, this talk we have/have had” at David Kordansky Gallery. Brendan Fowler, a.k.a. the one-man performance/band/project known as BARR, curated this group show. New Report, a news-style video by Wynne Greenwood (formerly of Tracy + the Plastics) and K8 Hardy, editor of the queer feminist literary and art journal LTTR, manages to entertain while exploring feminism and community and critiquing women’s representation in the media. Emily Roysdon, also a founder and editor of LTTR, displays a series of photos taken by participants in an endurance-based performance as they formed a human pyramid.
