A thick, blue, ropey extension goes from an outlet in the floor up to the shelf that's at the center of Jessica Stockholder's sculpture, then plugs into a bird lamp, which casts a glow on other brightly colored objects surrounding it: carpet samples, plastic parts. These things look familiar even you're not quite sure where they came from. Then there's a dripping, red and white painting of two egglike half-ovals; it angles awkwardly out from the wall below the shelf. Stockholder's is one of 22 sculptures on view now at 356 Mission Road, in a show full of objects that often look sort of like adolescent misfits, but misfits proud of their awkwardness. 356 S.
