Evan Wright is a journalist (and former L.A. Weekly contributor) who has covered CIA hitmen, neo-Nazis and Internet con artists. His widely praised Generation Kill
details his experience with the "killer elite" during the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. David McConnell is a novelist whose first nonfiction book, American Honor Killings: Desire and Rage Among Men
, tells the tragic stories of a half-dozen gay murder victims, killed by men who felt affronted by their sexuality. So when these two get together, well, it ought to be one hell of an uplifting night. The pair of authors will be at Skylight Books tonight for a conversation about McConnell's just-released book, which starts with the notorious Jenny Jones "secret admirer" murder and only gets more depressing from there. It's not exactly a walk in the park. Still, the Weekly
's Paul Teetor described American Honor Killings
as "chilling" and "a must-read," and the combination of Wright and McConnell is sure to be insightful, so … suck it up already. The uncomfortable truths are also the important ones.
