More About

Every art form needs its champions, and Eddie Muller, founder of the Film Noir Foundation, is tonight's cultural hero as he presents a 35mm double bill of black-and-white noir classics Try and Get Me (1950) and Repeat Performance (1947). The first, directed by Cyril Endfield and based on the 1933 Brooke Hart kidnap case, involves Frank Lovejoy and Lloyd Bridges as would-be cons whose murderous mistakes lead them to the wrong end of a noose. The second film, directed by Alfred Werker, stars 1940s studio poison Joan Leslie as an actress, who kills her skunky drunk husband, confesses to her producer and then wishes she could do it all over again -- which she does, in a rare touch of fantasy amidst the usual hard-bitten noir realism. Hammer Museum, Billy Wilder Theatre, 10899 Wilshire Blvd.,Wstwd.; Mon., March 4, 7:30 p.m.; $10. (310) 443-7000, cinema.ucla.edu.
Mon., March 4, 7:30 p.m., 2013
