More About

Everyone loves a good riot — especially if they don't have to be in the middle of it. And in that spirit of the spirited, the good folks at "We Hate Everything (Including This Film Series)" present singer-writer Alice Bag in A Riot of Our Own. The incomparable Bag presents film footage and personal accounts of two of the most riotous moments in L.A. punk-rock history: one, a Bags show at the Troubadour in 1978, after which Bags drummer Nickey Beat came to slaps with a caustic Tom Waits while enraged punkers tried to break down the doors to rescue their heroes. Two, the St. Patrick's Day 1979 Elks Lodge Riot, which involved the soon-to-be-wholesome Go-Go's and soon-to-be-obscure Plugz. Both bands barely got through their sets before the cops burst in, wielding clubs and helicopters with all the fascist splendor the LAPD was famous for at that time. But immortality smiles on moments like these: Everyone remembers the bands that played, but who remembers the names of the cops? Echo Park Film Center, 1200 N.
