Homeless Vets' Tough L.A. Winter

Many reject society's lofty plans for them

The guard listens to the explanation for why Sheen is trying to get in after hours and shuts the door to fetch Regina, a shelter worker. Regina comes to let Sheen inside.

Before heading to his cot, Sheen turns and says, "It's a good thing you were with me. If I were by myself, they wouldn't have let me in, and then I wouldn't have nowhere to go."

Homeless veterans NEED REGULAR HOUSING, not prison-like & all-controlling shelters that cost taxpayers TEN-TIMES what regular housing does; then get them jobs to pay for their REGULAR HOUSING...

The article about the plight of the homeless showed irresponsible journalism on the part of the L.A.Weekly.

To post the exact location where a homeless man sleeps was unacceptable.

It is obvious that you did not learn any lessons from the L.A. Times when they did the same thing only to have a homeless man murdered because his location was in print for the wrong person to see.

 Shame on you.

I hope the man in question (Russell Sheen) finds another place to sleep at night.

"I do not like the VA here," he says. "All they want to do is pump me full of drugs. Dude, that's what you guys did to me in Desert Storm — we got amphetamines, uppers, downers, it was ridiculous. They made me want to kill myself."

We all know what the mission is for all soldiers don't we?:  To engage and destroy....see Fallujah.  see Vietnam.  see Afghanistan.

The services are available for all our ex-killers who were in "service" to our nation.  Perhaps they should have taken that job a McDonalds before they enlisted afterall.

SO WHAT if the veterans drink; 80% of the nation drinks; Mel Gibson has been a rip-roaring drunk for 40 years and HE'S NOT HOMELESS!
