For a full, frenzied decade, Deke Dickerson's Guitar Geek Festival has rallied a mind-bending army of six-string pyrotechnicians, and this, the 10th and ostensibly final edition, is certainly no exception. A frantic adjunct to OC musician magnet the NAMM Show, this two-day conflagration kicks off Friday with appearances by the fiery, formidable southpaw soul strummer Barbara Lynn, the Lone Star state sensation prized for her unforgettably steamy 1962 lament "You'll Lose a Good Thing"; an ultra-rare visit from high-flying Alabama surf-instro bizarros Man or Astro-man?; a set from sensationally virtuoistic wah-wah innovator Del Casher, that wild cat who did the 1960s Hollywood scene from A-Z (by day as Gene Autry's Melody Ranch musical director, after dark as hired hand for Frank Zappa at the Whisky A Go Go); plus, natch, a turn by double-neck ax-slinger Dickerson himself. Saturday's show stomps and swings with a semi-reunion of The Randy Fuller Four (with Randy Fuller and surviving compadre Dewayne Quirico), with a significant additional blast of melodic mayhem from those brawling Nashville pickers Los Straitjackets and a climactic all-star jam session, which, considering the stellar pool of available NAMM attendees and this being the Geek Fest's ultimate incarnation, most assuredly is going to get completely out of hand.
