More About

Victor Hugo's novel Les Miserables was turned into the third biggest musical of all time. It also inspired several movies and is now a movie musical that's been as inescapable as Christmas music. All this over a stolen loaf of bread. In the case of Upright Citizens Brigade's Les Sizzlerables, it's probably more like stolen cheesy toast. Lindsay Katai directs a cast of 12 in this parody, which takes place in everybody's favorite casual dining restaurant: Sizzler (the Cheesecake Factory is too expensive). Nearly all of the main characters are here – reformed prisoner Jean Valjean (Richie Root, pictured); obsessed inspector Javert (Zach Reino); orphan Cosette (Megan Heyn); hottie revolutionary Marius (Jeff Newman) and lovelorn street urchin Eponine (Lauren Reeder) – but instead of prisoners, revolutionaries, prostitutes and peasants wearing rags, the actors are dressed as waiters and sing original lyrics set to some of the musical's biggest tunes. Think the Paris Uprising of 1832 was rough? Imagine the horror that lurks in Sizzler's salad bar. Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, 5919 Franklin Ave., Hlywd.; Thurs., Jan. 3, 8 p.m.; $5.
