More About

Just as grunge might've never existed if it hadn't been for hair metal, punk might've never existed if it hadn't been for prog rock, even if the Sex Pistols were joking about their collective hatred of Pink Floyd. Non-profit 826LA's Prog Angeles: An 826LA Fundraiser Celebrating the Music of Yes, King Crimson, and Pink Floyd pays tribute to the era that gave us bloated, run-on, migraine-inducing guitar and Mellotron solos by bands obsessed with the weather, science, fairies and medieval shit. The lineup – boasting most of Incubus, Weezer's Scott Shriner, Yes' Billy Sherwood and California Wildebeest's Marc Weingarten – will play music by Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Yes. The organizers will also introduce an upcoming book of essays titled Yes Is the Answer (McSweeney's), featuring Matthew Sweet, The Plimsouls' Peter Case and various writers (including former LA Weekly deputy editor Joe Donnelly) professing their love of the genre. Tonight, your endurance will be tested; remember, Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is nine-parts long and runs over 26 minutes. Somewhere out there even Rick Wakeman is rubbing his temples.
