More About

No one ever did the Macarena outside a banquet hall, and the same should apply to "Gangnam Style." Vogueing in the early 1990s – back when Madonna was relevant and electronica was called techno – was not only the last, big international dance craze but a true art form. Twenty years later, vogueing again is rearing its fashionable head in major cities, and Josie Basford is re-igniting the trend here at L.A. Is Burning…Vogue! Her monthly night, formerly at Los Globos, started in August and has attracted dozens of fierce, wannabe dancers who've competed for trophies and blessings from judges, including N.Y. dancer Hector Xtravaganza; you might remember other characters from the House of Xtravaganza from Paris is Burning, Jennie Livingston's excellent 1990 documentary on N.Y.'s gay nightclubs, which birthed vogueing competitions and lavish balls that featured teams named after fashion houses. Tonight also includes MC Miss Barbie Q and DJs Delroy Edwards and Chaz B Lazer spinning old school house music. Strike a pose, even if you're a hipster who's too timid to move. La Cita, 336 S. Hill St. dwntwn.; Tues., Nov. 20, 9 p.m.; $8. (213) 687-7111, lacitabar.com
