More About

In the 1930s, the famous British comedienne Gracie Fields had a hit song entitled, "I Brought My Harp to the Party, but Nobody Asked Me to Play." That's something that will probably never happen to Bridget Kibbey. One of the most accomplished and sought-after harpists today, Kibbey is known for an extraordinary ability to make her instrument virtually explode with kaleidoscopic colors and breathtaking layers of sound. This week, Camerata Pacifica presents Kibbey as the guest artist in an evening celebrating the music of Claude Debussy and other French composers who knew how to make the most of the harp. The program includes Debussy's Danse Sacree et Danse Profane and the Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp; Andre Caplet's Conte Fantastique after Edgar Allan Poe's "Masque of the Red Death"; Andre Jolivet's Chant de Linos; and Maurice Ravel's Introduction and Allegro for Harp, Flute, Clarinet and String Quartet. At the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, 300 E. Green St.; Tues., Nov. 13, 8pm. And at the Colburn School, Zipper Auditorium, 200 S. Grand Ave., dwntwn; Thurs., Nov. 15, 8pm; $45, $10 student rush.
