More About

Last year's Muse Costume Ball at LACMA — the biggest arty Halloween event in town — was centered on the Tim Burton exhibit. Guests at this year's party will get a sneak peak at the museum's latest tribute to a film icon, Stanley Kubrick, before the exhibit opens to the public. LACMA's entrance will be crawling with costumed characters inspired by the masquerade ball scene from Eyes Wide Shut, minus all the senseless humping. Come dressed as one of Kubrick's iconic characters — an astronaut or a Droog or HAL 9000 if you're really creative — and enter the big costume contest in the L.A. Times Central Court, which will include an audiovisual installation called Archimedes, constructed by Daedalus the dandy DJ and Emmanuel Baird, comprised of 24 mirrors, moving lights and projections. Daedalus also will be manning the music at the after-party in the museum's penthouse, which will include more themed sets inspired by Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange and The Shining. Watch out for the ax. LACMA, 5905 Wilshire Blvd.; Wed., Oct. 31, 8 p.m.-1 a.m.; $100. (323) 857-6000, lacma.org.
Wed., Oct. 31, 8 p.m., 2012
