More About

Opening night of the Los Angeles Master Chorale's 2012-13 season promises to break the sound barrier with Organ Extravaganza, a musical feast of choral works with organ, which, puns the website, "pulls out all the stops." The truly spectacular program includes Gerald Finzi's Ascension Day anthem, God Is Gone Up, and Hubert Parry's I Was Glad, two prime examples of 20th-century English choral music at its most glorious; the brilliant young Nico Muhly's haunting Bright Mass With Canons, and the West Coast premiere of his A Good Understanding, featuring the Los Angeles Children's Chorus; David Willcocks' rather rollicking interpretation of Psalm 150, also with the Children's Chorus; Arvo PŠrt's exquisitely profound The Beatitudes; Tarik O'Regan's Dorchester Canticles; Kurt Weill's Kiddush, composed in 1946 as a tribute to the composer's father, a Holocaust survivor and proud citizen of the new state of Israel; and the West Coast premiere of British composer Judith Weir's Ascending Into Heaven. Along with the amazing voices at hand, organists Paul Meier and Kimo Smith will give Disney Hall's famed pipe organ an unparalleled workout. Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S. Grand Ave., dwntwn.; Sun., Oct. 21, 7 p.m.; $39-$114. (213) 972-7282, lamc.org.
