Jason Reitman's Live Read

Year two of director "Jason Reitman's Live Read" forges ahead, with its surprise film script read by an unexpected cast assembled to reinterpret cinema's favorite films, thereby celebrating the writer for once, which is a rather encouraging way to go. Reitman, LACMA's first artist-in-residence, has consistently sold out the 600-room Bing Theatre within microseconds for past Live Reads, which have included — in all their evanescent, unrecorded glory — The Big Lebowski (with Seth Rogen as the Dude, Christina Hendricks as Maude and Sam Elliott as the Stranger), Reservoir Dogs(with Laurence Fishburne as Mr. White and Terrence Howard as Mr. Blonde) and The Breakfast Club, with Aaron Paul playing the Judd Nelson role and Michael Chiklis in the role of Mr. Vernon, the eternally simmering-with-annoyance assistant principal immortalized by the late Paul Gleason. The way you watch these films may never be the same, if only because your inner ear for the way these well-known characters carry themselves will henceforth be bent in an entirely different direction. Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Bing Theatre, 5905 Wilshire Blvd.; Thurs., Oct. 25, 7:30 p.m.; $10. (323) 857-6000, lacma.org.
Thu., Oct. 25, 7:30 p.m., 2012
