More About

Metallica's Kirk Hammett has been playing the devil's music for nearly 30 years and in his new book, Too Much Horror Business (named after a song by The Misfits, one of the band's biggest influences), he shares his obsession with all things related to scary movies that have inspired him. Writer and Metallica fan club magazine editor Stefan Chirazi interviews the guitarist about his San Francisco childhood, the nature of collecting memorabilia and the relationship between heavy metal and horror flicks. Hammett's collection spans eight decades and features mostly film posters dating back to the '20s and toys from the '60s and '70s, as well as props, costumes, magazines and guitars painted with horror-movie icons. But flipping through the book, it's obvious Hammett's biggest loves are the genre's twin B's, Bela and Boris; Hammett's most prized possessions include Lugosi's personal script to both the movie and Broadway play Dracula, in addition to clothes worn by Lugosi in White Zombie and by Karloff in The Black Cat. Barnes & Noble at the Grove, 189 Grove Drive; Thurs., Oct. 25, 7 p.m.; free, book is $29.95. (323) 525-0270, barnesandnoble.com.
