Cultural fragmentation is a pervasive marker of The Twenty-Worst Century, however virtually everyone adores The Beatles. Director Seth Swirsky has made a loving tribute called Beatles Stories featuring 50 famous and unfamous folks who tell of meetings Ñ and near misses Ñ with one to four Fabs. Brian Wilson recalls digging Rubber Soul stoned and being inspired to write Pet Sounds, as well as McCartney visiting and playing a new song called “She’s Leaving Home.” Apple Corps employee Jack Oliver had the unenviable task of calling Macca up about those death rumors. “I’m not dead,” a sleepy Paul told him. “Fuck off.” On a tour plane, Jackie DeShannon taught George the signature guitar lick from her “When You Walk in the Room” and presidential daughter Luci Baines Johnson regrets her father refusing to invite The Beatles to the White House. Footage of John doing the weather on a Philly news show is a gem, as is the tale of Ringo with binoculars and a bevy of naked girls exercising.
