Design Loves Art

With hundreds of modern and contemporary art galleries feting the new fall season and just three September weekends to do it, even the most diehard art-world mavens might be a bit dizzy by now. Well, sack up, object and image hounds, you've got one more huge night ahead of you, as all the 15+ galleries plus the wide public areas of the Pacific Design Center celebrate a new round of Design Loves Art with one of its trademark midweek indoor art walks. Everyone is bringing their A-Game in painting, sculpture, video and installation — but that said, there are a few unique highlights to consider: A show of interpretive cartography by groundbreaking graphic designer, artist and TED all-star Paula Scher (who gives a rousing version of her TED presentation on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m.); an installation in the Blue Lobby by New York sculptor Will Ryman, marking his L.A. debut with a monumental installation; and the inauguration of three new galleries — Wharton+Espinosa (formerly Annie Wharton Los Angeles), Hudson|Linc and LA Print Space. Of course as always, Blue Building stalwarts like another year in LA, den contemporary, See Line Gallery, Here Is Elsewhere, and Young Projects more than hold their own against this onslaught of special editions. Pacific Design Center, 8687 Melrose Ave., W. Hlywd.; Wed., Sept. 19, 5-9 p.m.; exhibit runs Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; thru Nov. 10; free. pacificdesigncenter.com.
Mondays-Fridays. Starts: Sept. 19. Continues through Feb. 1, 2012
