The saxophone has pretty much been a male-dominated instrument; if you Google "famous saxophone players," not even one woman comes up. But Chika Inoue is about to change all that. The young Japanese artist, who's won top honors at numerous competitions, including the 2012 Beverly Hills Auditions, has a rich, sonorous tone and wide-ranging repertoire that shows off the sax's not always appreciated versatility. She obviously loves her instrument, posing for photos that show her cradling it against her like a baby, or seeming to converse with it as she relaxes against a tree. This weekend, at The Previews, Inoue and her saxophone buddy present a sizzling program of works by a broad spectrum of composers, including Darius Milhaud — yup, the ever-popular Scaramouche — Ryo Noda, Jules Demersseman, Eugene Bozza, Astor Piazzolla, Denis Bdard and others, accompanied by another up-and-coming talent, the young and very gifted Armenian pianist Ovanes Arakelyan.
