More About

Johnny Ramone was reportedly the surliest and most antisocial member of the Ramones, but the annual summer tributes to the late guitarist, who died of prostate cancer in 2004, have transformed Hollywood Forever cemetery into one of the city's liveliest (so to speak) social gatherings. Originally started as a way of sharing some of Johnny's favorite flicks, The Eighth Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute has expanded to include art exhibits and autograph signings. Of course, reports of Ramone's notorious misanthropy have been greatly exaggerated. He comes across as an insightful if unsentimental narrator in his fast-paced and posthumously released new memoir, Commando, admitting that he didn't let a lot of his celebrity fans get close to him until late in life. Tonight, many of those pals — including Priscilla Presley, Rose McGowan, Steve Jones, Henry Rollins and Billy Zoom — are joined by key Ramones figures like Tommy Ramone, P.J. Soles and Johnny's wife, Linda Ramone, at a screening of the Elvis Presley film King Creole. Hollywood Forever, 6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Hlywd.; Sun., Aug. 19, 5:30 p.m.; $10. (323) 469-9933.
